Wedding Day Part 2

A few members of the family were invited to the wedding ceremony at the Gurdwara (Sikh Temple) at the bride’s village. It was a good five to six kilometres away from the main venue. Here we saw the bride for the first time. The wedding ceremony took just under two hours to complete. At the end of the ceremony we went back in a convoy of cars to the main wedding venue. Here the groom got changed (I always think that this is a peculiar custom since the wedding outfit looks so much better). The bride and groom arrived at the main hall preceded by a band and bhangra dhols. As you can see the groom is a clean shaven individual. Don’t you think he loses some of his presence by this change in appearance? Or am I biased?

From that point on the party proper started and we enjoyed very loud Punjabi music, food and entertainment. After the party we went to the groom’s family home and helped to officially invite the new daughter-in-law into their household. After a long and physically tiring day we piled into the back of our four by four and headed home on the thirty-five minute journey back home to our village. All in all it was a really good day. We left my brother-in-law (Meli) in the process of sorting out the water pump for the house. As we left they offered us a wide assortment of food to take home as we left, I thought it was only proper that I should reciprocate by offering them our water! Okay, it’s a bad joke, but hey they took it in good humour, (I think ;-).

  2. Hi Pam

I do a bit as we go along. In the mornings I have a little time to write and upload pictures. Having broadband at home helps!

I'm glad you are enjoying it, it really is a great way to record your trip. Actually better than a video camera to be honest.

We are off to Dehli tomorrow so I don't know if I'll have access to the net.
