Day 11b – The Agra Fort

After a hearty breakfast at the hotel following are early morning visit to the Taj, we collected our things and prepared to visit the Agra Fort. Originally we planned only to see the outside of the fort (which we did) but then decided that we would actually go in. It was the right decision and Pavan in particular was really pleased because she wanted to see where the story set around Jode Akhbar was set. The tour guide obliged and went into some detail at the Diwan-i-Am to explain the story of these two lovers (Emporer Akhbar and Joda Bhai). It was blisteringly hot and we sent a good hour and half looking around the royal apartments of the Mughal royal family. From the Jasmine Tower you could see the Taj Mahal over the river Jumna. Aurangzeb had his father Shah Jahan imprisoned in this jewel cage. Shah Jahan spent nearly eight years looking at the Taj from this place thinking about his deceased wife.
