Day 7b - Anandpur Sahib

Anandpur Sahib is the place where Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru created the Khalsa (the pure), and fought a number of pitched battles against the Mughal regime. By initiating the Khalsa he was trying to bring about social equality by doing away with the caste system. The local authorities had a vested interest in retaining the unequal existing social structure and along with the Mughal leaders attacked the Sikhs. The Guru lost his four sons and his mother during the last set of battles but did not give up his pursuit of initiating social change. For Sikhs, this is an incredibly important place because it was here that we gained our unique physical, spiritual, social and community identity.

  2. My pleasure!

I've really enjoyed putting it together. It actually serves as a great record of the trip for me personally.

I'll try and keep it going. We're off to Delhi tomorrow so I don't know what the net access will be like. Still where there is a will, there is a way.
