I’ve been really looking forward to visiting this place. Mahatma Gandhi forced Indians to think about opposing British rule in India by non-violent means. He succeeded to a greater degree and this monument is actually located on the spot that he was cremated. The place is called Rajgat and many dignitaries that visit India come to this place to pay their respects to a man who had great vision and compassion. The following photos provide a little more detail.

Group picture in front of the Rajgat entrance.

The simple black marble slab marks the exact place where Gandhi Ji was cremated. To the right you can see the eternal flame.

The main entrance to the small garden in which the monument stands can be seen just behind us.

A simple band to prevent access to the monument itself.

Profound words.
You're going to need a holiday/rest when you get back, Tarsem! Great to see the Mahatma's memorials - not many heroes in our time, but he is mine :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Bill
ReplyDeleteThe place is so quite and serene. It's really unbelieveable. Especially with traffic and noise that is Delhi.
Just wait till you see the next set of enteries. You're right we are probably going to need another holiday :-).
